Fragile

  • easily broken or distroyed

  • vulnerably delicate

The rugged coast of Maine with its glacial erratics seems unchanged for thousands of years. However, global warming, exploitation and pollution increasingly threaten this environment.

Several of the vessels were made with throwster’s waste, a byproduct of silk production. Others were made with flax or nettle fiber. Only natural dyes were used. The pale green vessel was made with locally foraged Old Man’s Beard [Usnea]. This lichen is actually a bioindicator, since it only tends to grow in regions where the air is clean.

All are made with a natural cellulose binder and dissolve when submerged.

These vessels refer to the responsibility we hold and the fragility of life on this planet.
